Fei Fei Li & Lisa Su: Women In Tech Levels Up & Compounds Together

A Rare Deal Led By Two Most Powerful Women In Tech

Recently, AMD CEO Lisa Su and AI pioneer Fei Fei Li signed an $8.2 billion deal to bring World Labs into AMD.

It is a rare AI deal led by two of the most powerful women in tech, and it comes right after AMD became the first company led by a female CEO to reach a $1 trillion market cap.

In case you are not keeping track of all the players behind these companies, AMD is led by CEO Lisa Su and World Labs was cofounded by Fei Fei Li, also known as the godmother of AI.

That makes this an extremely rare AI deal between two of the women at the very top of this industry. Su was No. 3 on this year's Most Powerful Women list, while Li was No. 45.

Lisa Su has become the first female CEO to lead a company past $1 trillion in market value after the US chipmaker AMD crossed the milestone amid an AI driven stock rally.

Fortune reported that AMD became the first company led by a female CEO to cross $1 trillion.

Oracle had previously approached the threshold under former CEO Safra Catz, but its market capitalisation peaked at around $925 billion in 2025.

The achievement comes in an industry where women remain underrepresented in senior technology leadership.

Fei Fei Li: Godmother Of AI Building Spatial Intelligence

Fei Fei Li, Ph.D., is the co founder and CEO of spatial intelligence company World Labs and the inaugural Sequoia professor of computer science at Stanford University, where she is also the founding co director of Stanford's human centered AI.

She presented alongside Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, at CES 2026 demonstrating how spatial intelligence is moving from research into practical, creative workflows.

World Labs builds spatial intelligence models that can generate and simulate physical environments using text, images and videos.

San Francisco based World Labs develops world models capable of reasoning about three dimensional environments rather than relying solely on flat data.

The world model is an AI model that not only generates language and images but also learns how the real world is structured and moves.

Headquartered in San Francisco, World Labs develops spatial intelligence models that generate, reconstruct and simulate interactive 3D environments from text, image and video inputs, as well as technology for robotic learning and simulation.

Lisa Su: Turnaround Engineer Who Compounded

Lisa Su is the president and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, a position she has held since October 2014.

In 2012, Su joined AMD as senior vice president and general manager of Global Business Units.

In 2014, she was promoted to president and CEO, becoming the first Taiwanese woman to lead a publicly listed semiconductor company in the United States.

Notable for turnaround of AMD with Zen architecture, leading AMD's AI accelerator strategy, one of the most prominent women in semiconductor industry.

Under the leadership of Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, AMD pioneered the commercial deployment of multi chiplet architectures and 3D V Cache technology.

Under her leadership, AMD's stock rose over 3,000 percent. Her strategic decisions helped turn AMD from a struggling company into a global tech giant.

Lisa Su uses her platform to encourage more women to pursue roles in engineering and chip technology.

Under Su, AMD has grown the share of women in its technical roles around 20 percent of engineering roles by 2022 and emphasizes outreach to women in STEM.

$8.2B All Stock Deal: Physical AI + Silicon Compounding

AMD announced on September 28 that it will acquire World Labs, a spatial intelligence AI startup founded by Fei Fei Li, for $8.2 billion in an all stock deal.

The acquisition gives AMD access to world model technology used to simulate physical environments, extending its reach beyond chips into AI software aimed at robotics and physical AI applications.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026.

Li, co founder and chief executive officer of World Labs, will join as AMD senior vice president and chief scientist, reporting directly to AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su. Following the close, the World Labs team will continue advancing AI model research.

We began a deep technical partnership with AMD last year, starting with model training and inference optimization on AMD GPUs, Li said in a post on LinkedIn.

This is levels up and compounds together in practice:

  • Li is building technology around a view of where AI goes next: spatial intelligence and physical AI, robots that understand 3D space.
  • Su is deciding that the opportunity matters enough for AMD to commit billions to it, building silicon around world models.
  • Together they compound hardware plus software: AMD MI400 and MI500 generations shaped around spatial intelligence workloads.

For years, much of conversation about women and capital focused on women getting greater access to funding. This deal flips it.

Two women controlling capital allocation at $8.2B scale, defining next era of AI infrastructure.

Women in tech levels up not just by entering, but by compounding together.

Chip pioneer plus AI pioneer equals physical AI that understands world, not just data.
