Meta Should Compete with LinkedIn
LinkedIn is vulnerable because AI flooded it with 100,000 applications per role. Meta already has Threads for B2B, Groups and Events for real meetups, and Muse for job hunting. The mission was always to bring the world closer together. Professional connections are part of that.

Why Now: The Reputation Crisis
Silicon Valley is building a new professional reputation platform called Cosign, and its premise is simple: in a world where AI can generate 100,000 job applications for a single opening, the only currency that still matters is a human being willing to attach their name to yours.
In an age of endless outreach and interest with AI, the scarce thing is the human endorsement or the human conviction or human knowledge.
Cosign narrows reputation to three specific co-sign types that LinkedIn structurally cannot: who shaped your career, would work with anywhere or in the trenches, and a person to watch.
Everything on a profile comes from public sources, funding announcements, public posts, job transitions, aggregated and structured by AI.
The insight from a16z: LinkedIn is about personal identity.
Starting point is about 00:36:58. LinkedIn is about they say it is like people you know.
Twitter is like people who are interested in knowing you. And Cosign hopes to deliver both in a more granular way.
That framing is exactly why Meta should enter.
LinkedIn is personal identity.
Twitter is interest.
Threads plus Meta ecosystem can deliver both with real social proof.

Meta Already Scaled Threads for B2B
Threads wins for B2B technology, startup, and developer audiences, building in public, long form threads, and technical writing.
That is the segment that left X.
To date, only 19 percent of B2B companies have started posting on Threads, demonstrating that only a small portion is exploring.
That is not a weakness.
It is an early mover window.
Many professionals already use Threads for B2B talks instead of Twitter or X, because the conversation is less noisy and tied to real Instagram identity.
Meta has the distribution to cross that 19 percent to 50 percent fast. Threads is already inside Instagram.
Professional content can be promoted across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads in one system.

The Meta Stack for Professional Networking
Meta's ecosystem encompasses a wide range of products and services across categories: Social Networking Platforms with features News Feed, Groups, Events, Marketplace, Watch.
And the company has trademarked business networking services including organizing and arranging events for promotional or advertising purposes, organizing business networking events in fields of entrepreneurship, business development, business promotion, business networking, and business growth.
That is not accidental. Groups and Events are what LinkedIn never built well.
A Meta competitor to LinkedIn would look like this:
Threads as professional feed.
Real time professional talks via Threads, cross platform networking IG plus FB plus Threads, challenge LinkedIn with open, social first networking.
Groups as vertical communities.
Facebook Groups for professionals already exist for design, AI, startup hiring, crypto.
Make them searchable by skill and promotable across Meta platforms.
LinkedIn Groups died. Facebook Groups did not.
Events as real connection. Post event analysis after an event, Meta Business Suite provides analytics to track metrics such as RSVPs, attendance, and engagement. Promotion is essential. Strategies include cross promotion across other social media platforms.
Imagine a B2B meetup created in Facebook Events, pushed to Instagram Stories, discussed in Threads, with WhatsApp Communities follow up. LinkedIn cannot do that loop.
Muse as career agent. Meta launched a personal AI agent, Muse, for people looking for help with day to day tasks like schedules, shopping and turning long term goals into action plans.
Extend that: Muse can help with job hunting, resume tailoring, company research, interview prep, and company promotions.
Muse can sell a car for more, lower a bill, or adjust a workout plan. It can also plan steps and coordinate time and resources for a job search.
A personal agent that knows the network can suggest who can co-sign.

Why Human Connections Win in the Age of AI
In an age where outreach is infinite, endorsement is scarce. LinkedIn treats same company, same team, same time, and managed them as one undifferentiated edge.
The result is cold connections, profile browsing, and algorithm noise.
Human connections and soft skills are becoming more important in the age of AI.
Empathy, communication, listening, collaboration, adaptability cannot be faked by a resume generator.
A Meta backed professional network can be more genuine than connections on LinkedIn because it is built on real conversations, supportive community, and cross platform identity that includes personal context, not just job titles.
Meta's mission has always been: Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
The original mission was to connect and share with the people in your life. Professional connections also require that to be completed.
Work is where people spend most of their life.
If Meta connects people but not professionals, the mission is half done.
Strategic Play
- Launch Professional Mode for Threads. Verified work history imported from Instagram bio, ability to co-sign with three types like Cosign, public lists of people to watch. Positive only by design, durable endorsements that accrue to profile not timeline.
- Make Muse the job hunting layer. Muse already handles day to day tasks and schedules. Add job hunting and company promotions as a first class flow, with human co-sign as gate. AI can generate 100,000 applications. Muse plus co-sign can filter to 10 real introductions.
- Groups and Events as monetization. Promote a professional event across other Meta platforms, with ticketed Events and lead ads. That is what LinkedIn charges for. Meta can do it with better reach and lower cost, and with real meetups that turn online connections into offline trust.
The window is open because a16z proved even LinkedIn alumni like Josh Elman see the gap. Cosign is trying to be both Twitter and LinkedIn for Silicon Valley. Meta already has both at billion user scale.
Meta should compete with LinkedIn. Not by copying it, but by connecting people where LinkedIn only collected them.
