### 1\. The Big Shift: Finance Meets Performance Marketing

Google is bridging finance with performance marketing — to drive more profit while monetizing AI through conversion values. Interesting times.

Three product pillars tell the story:

Merchant Centre: They're bringing more features — seeing AI performance of the feed. Live Performance +18% CTR example in your screenshots, Real-time insights + Smarter feed sync.

This turns product feed optimization from Shopping maintenance task into a visibility and growth lever.

New Features for AI Campaigns: Limited to PMax or AI Max-enabled campaigns. Vision: "Best ads in the age of AI are answers".

So ads will be more about information than creative (on Google). Shopping searches will now feature an AI-generated brief at the top highlighting important things to consider for that particular product, followed by a list of recommended products.

These recommended products will not be ads, but rather a selection based on organic factors such as customer reviews and price range.

AI Brief: They're bringing more conversational features to guide AI – for us/advertisers. As your slide shows:

**AI Brief + Product Value Optimization.** This is Google's Ads Decoded episode "How to build a retail growth engine in 2026" — product feeds, campaign portfolio strategy, shoppable CTV, agentic commerce.

**Product Value Optimization:** New features to move high-margin or priority (e.g. overstock) items.

Google Ads has a new beta named Product Value Optimization that allows advertisers to configure value adjustments to guide automated bidding to optimize for products that matter for your business goals.

> **Translation:** Google lets you tell PMax: push High Margin Products +32%, Standard +12%, Low Margin -5%. Focus on value → higher margin ROI. Strategy: Prioritize products with strong margin & demand.

This is finance meeting performance. Budget = ROI Focus, Track CAC, LTV, ROAS. Data-driven decisions = profitable growth. For years we optimized for ROAS. Now we optimize for profit.

### 2\. Systems: Shopping is Now Delegated (Kahneman System 3)

Following Daniel Kahneman's playbook, they think there is going to be a new way of shopping, delegating research to AI.

Slide: System 3 / Delegated / Cognitive offloading.

Google's framing: There is System 1 fast thinking,

System 2 slow thinking, now System 3 delegated — let AI do research.

Evidence from stage: 99% of shoppers who research with ChatGPT consult Google for final decisions. Google commissioned Ipsos, Consumer Continuous, Apr 2026, n=12,038 ChatGPT commercial users.

Your photos show same slide twice — that is their headline stat.

What it means: Shopper delegates initial research to ChatGPT (compare best-selling ThinkPad laptops, What's trending? What's return policy? Are there current deals?), but returns to Google for validation and transaction.

**Keywords:** As anticipated, they are getting less relevant in terms of exact queries but mattering more in semantic understanding. AI Mode reimagines ads as part of discovery journey. Ads are moving deeper into conversational experiences like AI Mode.

**SEO:** Not dying, as expected. What works for SEO works for GEO. GEO-specific markups will matter more, like Shopify's "Agentic" app tab and Knowledge Base. Shopping searches AI-generated brief at top = GEO. If your product feed + reviews + price range feed that brief, you win organic recommendation, then your sponsored retail listing closes.

### 3\. YouTube: From Awareness to Demand Capture

They are integrating campaigns like Demand Gen even more.

Trying to push YouTube more into demand capture rather than mostly awareness.

Your slide proof: +11% higher in online sales / +14% higher in-store sales / higher ROAS than all social — In MMMs run by TransUnion among Retail advertisers in US, Demand Gen delivered higher ROAS than all social publishers across online and in-store results.

Other confirmed stats: On average, 68% of Demand Gen conversions came from users who did not see brand's ads on Google Search in 30 days prior.

And advertisers who build first-party data strength are seeing 11% average increase in incremental ROAS.

Business Agent for YouTube Ads: One of bigger announcements. Shoppers will be able to interact with ad even more. Basically integrating Gemini chatbot further into in-app / in-ad placement.

Your Lenovo screenshots show it live: "Ask Lenovo" chatbot inside ad, "Shop Now", "What's trending? What's return policy?

Are there any current deals? Compare best-selling ThinkPad laptops" — ThinkPad E16 Gen 3 AMD 16-inch Clamshell comparison table.

Official: Business Agent for Leads, built with Gemini, which puts a brand agent directly inside the ad.

Through this, shopper will be able to chat with an agent trained on advertiser's website, helping turn interaction into valuable lead.

Business Agent embeds Gemini-powered chatbot trained on advertiser's own website directly inside Search ad.

For YouTube, same: Gemini-powered chatbot engages shoppers directly from YouTube ads — capturing demand & driving conversions across online + in-store. Shoppable CTV turns passive TV impressions into direct commerce.

### My Strategic Take: Answers > Ads

Rethink Retail 2026 is not about new placements. It is about redefining what an ad is.

> **Old:** Ad = creative + keyword + bid
> **New:** Ad = answer + product feed + profit margin + chatbot

1. If best ads are answers, creative is table stakes, information wins. "Need durable boots?" → Weatherproof, 2yr warranty ✓ beats fancy video. Your product attributes in Merchant Centre are your ad copy.
2. Finance layer: Product Value Optimization is the first time Google lets finance team drive bidding directly. Overstock? Push margin. Q4 cash flow need? Push high LTV. Performance marketing becomes P&L management.
3. Delegated shopping means you must win twice: Win the AI research phase (ChatGPT/Gemini brief), and win final decision on Google. That is GEO + SEO same work.
4. YouTube Demand Gen + Business Agent = social killer: +11% online, +14% in-store, higher ROAS than social — if YouTube can capture demand in-ad with Gemini chat, it moves from awareness to checkout, collapsing funnel.

In short: Retail Success 2026 = Smarter Spend, Higher Profit. Treat product data as ongoing optimization, not setup. Build Knowledge Base + Agentic app markup for GEO. And turn on Product Value Optimization.
